Fallen

The idea for this painting came to me after a few hours of playing Dragon Age: Origins. And perhaps with the Renn-Faire fresh on my mind as well, I thought it'd be fun to do a piece like this. It's still very rough...but I think it's far enough along to share with you all.

Enjoy! And have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Another lunch thumbnail...kind of in the same world as the one below.

Did this one during lunch today.
Another exploration done for fun.
I really enjoy smudging paint around and having fun with textures. I thought this would make for an interesting area for a character to explore in a game like Shadow of the Collossus.

Wanted to give you guys something new. This one's an hour and a half speedpaint from the ol' imagination. There's certainly a lot of issues with it, but I'll get to those later.

Hey folks! Check out Issue 56 of Advanced Photoshop, hitting the shelves here in May for an extensive feature on matte-painting. Advanced Photoshop was kind enough to have me share some of my knowledge on the subject, so if you're into utilizing photographs into your artwork, or want to achieve a more believable sense of realism, I definitely recommend checking it out.

Also, if you want to see more about how I made the image above - feel free to check out a more in-depth process on my website: http://www.metavisuals.com/Matte/Dubrovnik.html

I had some fun doing a scene study recently - Pausing Raiders of the Lost Ark on my laptop, and painting from scratch the different panels on my computer. The city ones are from King Kong and Die Hard 3.

Thanks again for all of the comments and taking some time to check out the latest. I haven't posted here in a while since I've been busily working on these two pieces for a client. It was very refreshing painting some figures again, which is something I am definitely looking forward to doing more of. I hope you enjoy them.

Based on reference from my trip to Edinburgh, Scotland a few years ago. I had a good time with some custom brushes

Something loose from the imagination.

Here's about a five hour piece that originated from some random scribbling. It suddenly started looking like a cool forest village, where the creatures would carve out the bottoms of trunks and create their homes. My thoughts were that the center tree would be the village leader's house. Well, that would be my home anyway, haha.

Here's a fun and quick sketch, trying out some bold color choices.

A quick sketch of an idea during lunch yesterday.

This one's inspired by those classic days playing Final Fantasy and other fun RPGs. Very loose and quick, which I might flesh out later.

I think I can call this one finished. On to the next!

Blog creation complete!

I finally broke down and started a blog. You can still see a lot of my professional and personal work on my website at Metavisuals.com, but it'll be great to have a place here to post quicker sketches and painting updates. So thanks for visiting, and to kick it off, you can enjoy a piece I did this week:
